A couple of days back my friend, who lives in Houston, returned from his visit to India, and couldn’t stop gushing over the amazing time he had in Hyderabad. Though, it wasn’t his maiden trip to India, but it was for the first time he had been to this South Indian city; and seems like it was the best he has had of India so far. So he described me of the places he visited, the food he ate and the friends he made (one of whom, I know, he’s developed a crush on 😉 ). So yeah, because I’ve heard so much about Hyderabad from him and because I have wasted enough of my ISD balance over the calls, I well make some use of it her.

So if you are traveling to Hyderabad from Houston; you may well get something to benefit from this post. Read on:

First of all, it’s a long haul journey, and may take around 20-30 hours, depending on the airline and stop overs. You may easily find a one-stop flight, however, Houston to Hyderabad direct flight is totally impractical to even think of.

Second, while you’ll get respite from the humidity of Houston, however, brace yourself for some tropical heat in Hyderabad. It’s a slight temperature high from the sub-tropical temperatures.

And now, things you are most interested to know; you most definitely have to take out time for these on your Hyderabad trip:

The Charminar, Golconda Fort, Hussain Sagar Lake, Salar Jung Museum are a must visit to appreciate the old charm and architectural glory of this beautiful city of the Nizams. Add to the list the magnificent Chowmahalla Palace too.

There are many Iranian bakeries and cafes in the city where you may enjoy a tasteful sip of the special Irani Chai (tea) and Osmania biscuits. Cafe Niloufer is one good choice to make, for it has a great ambiance to match the tempting bakery items to savour. Also, it is unlike the high-end places which dig a deep hole in your pockets.

From mouthful, let’s talk of places to go for to get your stomach full. Hyderabad is known for its use of hot chilies and the most amazing gosht (meat) dishes, besides the Hyderabadi Biryani. So to enjoy the most sumptuous meals with delicacies like pathar ka gosht, biryani, mirchi ka salan etc., head to Four Seasons in Tolichowki or in the old city try Shadaab.

For the off-beaten locations, climbing up to Moula Ali Hillock, will give you splendid views of the city and the breezy atmosphere is all you need to spend a calming evening after some exhausting city tour all through the day.

But then, after the relaxing evenings, go back exploring the Hyderabadi markets as they remain open until quite late. The reason for this is the late start of the day in the city. You can’t expect anything worth doing or exploring until 11:00 a.m. in the morning.

So there you have it, some useful insights to make your Hyderabad trip fun and enjoyable. So guys, have you got your Houston to Hyderabad air tickets booked? Hope you do make some use of it. And yes, there’s this place in Dargah Hussain Shah Wali by the name of Suraiya Hasan’s weaving workshop. You may well take some time out to buy some beautiful fabrics with Mughal-era magic spun over them. The earnings go into sponsoring girl child education.
